NOTE: This is a series of articles written by individual authors, both in and out of The Draft Class. These are all part of The Draft Class’ NBA Re-Draft, in which all of the current 30 NBA teams are represented and will undergo a simulation through NBA 2K20, with the goal to build the best team over the next five years. All teams have already been formed through the snake draft. These pieces will break down why each team’s representative drafted the way they did, as well as the approach the representative had heading into the draft.

From “The Beard” to “The Bonga,” this Bulls squad was constructed more around my 2K experience as opposed to what I thought would succeed in the NBA. I’m usually frustrated playing against James Harden-led teams where him and Clint Capela dominate on the pick and roll. Since we’re doing a sim, why not go with what works?
Instead of one, give Harden two bigs (Capela, Wendell Carter Jr.) for the high pick and roll. Both are strong rebounders to crash the boards when trailing Harden (or DeMar DeRozan) on drives to the rim. If both defenders step out on Harden, Capela and WCJ can cruise in for the finish (they pull this move on me constantly in 2K).
DeRozan gives me something similar to the current Rockets makeup with Russell Westbrook. He can drive and create his own shot, drawing in the defense and opening up shots for Harden, Miles Bridges, Paul Millsap and the bench mob. I think there is more shooting here than meets the eye with Bridges, Milsap, Shake Milton, Trey Burke, and Bol Bol, most of whom should only improve. With two 30 year old stars, this team is ready to compete. I’m expecting a championship in Years 1 or 2, and the young front-court and bench should help them sustain success as the stars fade in Years 4 and 5.
